Complex Case Specialist, Implant Pathway Faculty
Instructs full-arch surgical protocols to dentists nationally. Handles advanced grafting, remote anchorage, zygomatic implants, and revision cases at our Glendale location.
We use only board-certified dental anesthesiologists for GA cases, dentists with an additional residency in dental-office anesthesia management. We do not use CRNAs. Fewer than 400 board-certified dental anesthesiologists practice in the US, which is why GA scheduling is limited.

All-on-4 is an advanced dental implant solution designed for individuals with severely compromised or no teeth. By utilizing four to six dental implants, the All-on-4 concept can replace missing or broken teeth with a fixed solution. All-on-4 implants are securely fixed in place and function much like natural teeth, providing stability and eliminating worries of teeth slipping, breaking or shifting.
All-on-4 dental implants are commonly referred to as "Teeth in a Day" because you can leave the dental office on the same day as the implant procedure with a temporary set of fixed upper and lower teeth.
Snap-In Dentures (also called Click-In Dentures or Overdentures) are a cost-effective alternative to traditional dentures that utilizes strategically placed implants for added retention. Snap-In Dentures are removable by the patient for easy cleaning, but offer superior stability when compared to conventional dentures.
Snap-In Dentures can help to increase your confidence, comfort, and function, thereby greatly increasing your quality of life.
Single Tooth Implants or Multi-Tooth Implant Bridges are the best way to repair failing or missing teeth in a localized area. Dental implant restorations are prosthetic teeth that are designed to attach to your implant, and restore your smile. With the titanium implant, your new tooth will function just like your natural tooth did.
Single Tooth Implants can be treated just like a natural tooth. Simply brush and floss your teeth normally, and your implant will remain healthy and strong for years to come.

Dental implants do not get cavities -- but the tissue surrounding them can develop peri-implantitis, a bacterial infection that destroys the bone supporting the implant. Left untreated, peri-implantitis is the leading cause of late implant failure.
Our hygiene team monitors implant sites at every recall visit. If early peri-implantitis signs appear, we intervene before bone loss becomes significant. Learn about our periodontal treatment approach.
Smile Science is owned entirely by Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke -- two practicing dentists with no outside investors, no DSO involvement, and no private equity. The doctors making your treatment decisions are the same people whose names are on the practice.
Surgery is performed by Dr. Dawson or Dr. Barrett depending on your case -- not a rotating staff surgeon from a chain.
At Smile Science Dental Spa, you can rest assured that you're getting the absolute best price for your dental implant treatment without sacrificing quality. This is due to our state-of-the-art technology and in-house lab, which allow us to complete your entire procedure and teeth fabrication under one roof, passing our savings directly onto you.
In most cases, absolutely not! While some people may have been told by another dentist that they are too old or don't have enough bone, this is likely not the case. There have been incredible strides made over the past decade with dental implant technology and techniques. If you have been told that you are not a candidate, we highly recommend that you get a second opinion at Smile Science Dental Spa.
Most people are candidates for dental implants at Smile Science Dental Spa. The best way to find out if you're a candidate is to schedule a Free Consultation. At your consultation, Dr. Dawson will answer your questions, take x-rays, and review your medical history before making a determination. You will also leave with a transparent cost breakdown.
Dental implants are designed to last several decades with proper care. The implant fixture -- the titanium post that fuses to your bone -- is built to last a lifetime in most patients. The zirconia or prosthetic restoration typically lasts 15+ years with regular maintenance. Our 10-Year Limited Implant Guarantee covers integration failure during the critical first decade.
Absolutely not! There are many reasons why younger people might need dental implants, from an injury, to poor dental hygiene, even prior drug use. We've seen it all and will make you feel welcome and at ease from the moment you step through our doors.
Yes. If you've received a treatment plan from another provider and want a second opinion, we offer a free consultation that includes 3D cone beam CT imaging. Dr. Dawson will review your existing plan honestly and give you a complete, itemized cost breakdown. No pressure, no obligation. We can typically see you within 1–2 days. Call (480) 530-3663 or schedule online above.
Not always. Many patients who have been told they need a bone graft actually don't -- advances in implant techniques allow us to work with the bone you have. During your free consultation, Dr. Dawson uses 3D cone beam CT imaging to evaluate your bone volume precisely. If a graft is needed, we perform it in-house, and it is often combined with the implant placement in the same appointment.
Most patients are surprised by how manageable the procedure is. We offer local anesthesia, IV sedation, and oral sedation options. The surgery itself is performed while you are fully comfortable. Post-procedure soreness is typically managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and usually resolves within a few days. Most patients return to normal activity the following day.
It depends on your case. Single tooth implants typically take 3-6 months from placement to final crown. Full-arch All-on-4 cases can be completed in a single day -- you leave with a full set of fixed teeth. Your timeline will be laid out clearly at your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.
Many patients with systemic health conditions successfully receive implants. Controlled diabetes does not disqualify you. Blood thinners require coordination with your physician but are manageable in most cases. Dr. Dawson reviews your full medical history before making any recommendation. We do not exclude patients based on health history without a proper evaluation.
The bone beneath a missing tooth begins to resorb -- shrink -- within months of tooth loss. Adjacent teeth shift into the gap over time, affecting your bite and making future restoration more complex. An implant is the only tooth replacement option that stimulates bone like a natural root and prevents this deterioration.
Most adults with one or more missing teeth are candidates for dental implants. The primary requirements are sufficient bone density to anchor the implant and healthy gum tissue. Certain medical conditions -- such as uncontrolled diabetes or active periodontal disease -- may need to be addressed first, but they rarely disqualify a patient permanently. The most reliable way to know is a free consultation that includes a 3D cone beam CT scan to assess your bone volume precisely.
The titanium implant fixture that fuses to your jawbone is designed to last a lifetime. Clinical data shows success rates above 95% at 10 years and strong long-term outcomes beyond 20 years with proper care. The crown or prosthetic restoration placed on top typically lasts 15 or more years before needing replacement. Routine maintenance -- professional cleanings, annual check-ups, and avoiding tobacco -- has the greatest impact on implant longevity.
Most patients report that the procedure is far more comfortable than they expected. The surgical area is fully numb before any work begins, and IV sedation is available on-site if you want to be completely relaxed or asleep for the entire appointment. Post-operative discomfort is typically manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers and resolves within a few days. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and are available to answer any questions during your recovery.
The timeline varies depending on the treatment plan, but a single-tooth implant typically takes three to six months from placement to final crown. Full-arch cases often involve placing temporary teeth on the same day as surgery, with the final zirconia restoration delivered four to six months later once the implants have fully integrated with the bone. Complex cases requiring bone grafting may add time. At your free consultation, Dr. Dawson will give you a personalized timeline based on your specific situation.
In many cases, yes. Bone loss is common after tooth loss and does not automatically disqualify you from implants. Bone grafting techniques can rebuild volume in deficient areas, and specially designed implants can be placed in smaller amounts of bone. 3D cone beam CT imaging gives us an exact picture of your available bone, allowing for accurate surgical planning even in challenging situations. We recommend a second opinion before accepting a "not enough bone" verdict from another provider.
Yes. Dental implants are the only tooth-replacement option that functions like a natural tooth from root to crown. The implant fixture anchors in the bone just as a tooth root does, which preserves the jawbone and provides a stable base. The final restoration -- whether a crown, bridge, or full-arch prosthetic -- is custom-designed to match your natural teeth in color, shape, and size. Patients consistently report that their implants feel completely natural and forget they are there.
Coverage varies widely by plan. Many dental insurance plans still classify implants as a cosmetic procedure and provide limited or no coverage, though this is gradually changing as implants become the standard of care. Some plans cover portions of the process -- such as the extraction, bone graft, or crown -- even if they exclude the implant fixture itself. We work with most major insurances and will help you understand exactly what your plan covers. Flexible financing through CareCredit, Cherry, Sunbit, and Proceed Finance is available to cover any remaining balance.
Advertised prices vary significantly in what they include. Some quotes cover only implant fixtures and arch fabrication. Extractions, alveoloplasty, CBCT imaging, sedation, and provisional restorations may be billed separately, and not all “zirconia” arches use the same fabrication standard. Our pricing includes your 3D CBCT planning scan, surgical placement, standard extractions, and your final restoration. Before comparing prices, ask any provider for a written itemized list of what is and is not included.
Warranty terms vary widely between practices. Many are not provided in writing until after treatment begins. Before committing, ask to see the written warranty document: what failures are covered, what maintenance is required to keep it valid, and what happens if the practice closes or you relocate. Our 10-year fixture warranty is manufacturer-backed and our 5-year prosthetic warranty covers fit, fracture, and fabrication defects. Both are provided in writing before your first appointment.
For many patients the underlying cause is not hygiene. It is oral chemistry. Acid from reflux, diet, mouth breathing, dry mouth, or systemic conditions like diabetes continuously demineralizes enamel and attacks restorations. Individual repairs cannot solve a whole-system problem. Full-arch implants replace the variable entirely, and because complex systemic cases require more thorough pre-surgical assessment, Dr. Dawson evaluates every case with this in mind before recommending a treatment path.
No. Smile Science is 100% owned by Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke, two practicing dentists. There are no outside investors, no private equity involvement, and no management company directing clinical decisions. Both owners practice here full time. In a DSO or corporate chain, treatment recommendations can be influenced by investor returns, production quotas, or rotating providers who do not know your history. At Smile Science, the people making your treatment decisions are the same people whose names are on the practice. They are the doctors you will see at your appointment.
