On-Site Dental Lab

With our on-site dental laboratory and full-time Lab Tech, we are able to deliver several benefits to our patients:

MicronMapper Photogrammetry

The MicronMapper is an advanced photogrammetry tool that has significantly improved the precision and success rate of dental implant procedures. By providing highly detailed 3D scans of a patient’s mouth, the MicronMapper allows us to plan implant placements with incredible accuracy. This precision ensures that implants are positioned optimally, reducing the risk of complications and enhancing the overall success of the procedure.

For patients, the use of the MicronMapper means a more predictable and comfortable experience. The detailed imaging helps us avoid critical structures like nerves and sinuses, minimizing the chances of postoperative issues. Additionally, the improved accuracy can lead to shorter surgery times and faster recovery periods.

3D Printing Technology

At Smile Science Dental Spa, we are proud to utilize cutting-edge 3D printing technology to enhance patient care, particularly in implant dentistry. The development of 3D printers, such as the SprintRay, has transformed the dental field, enabling us to create precise and highly customized dental solutions right here in our office.

One of the most significant advancements is the ability to produce temporary All-On-4 teeth in-house. Our SprintRay 3D printer allows us to fabricate these temporary restorations with incredible accuracy, providing patients with natural-looking teeth immediately after surgery, often within 24 hours. The superior quality, fit, and comfort of these restorations far exceed what traditional methods can offer.

By integrating 3D printing into our completely digital workflow, we not only speed up the process of creating dental prostheses but also reduce costs, which translates to significant savings for our patients.

CBCT (3D Imaging)

CBCT stands for ConeBeam Computed Tomography, which is a special type of digital x-ray scanner that dentists use to see a 3D image of your mouth and teeth.

The ConeBeam CT imaging system rotates once around your head while you stand or sit in a chair. The process is quick, simple, and completely painless. We use these scans to provide the best treatment in dental implants, root canals, diagnosis of dental and facial pain, and more.

We can evaluate your teeth and facial structures from literally every angle, in 3D, and in color. Routine x-rays, on the other hand, produce a single flat image with limited information. You can have absolute confidence and satisfaction in the treatment you receive, knowing we’ve analyzed every problem with 3D technology.

CAD/CAM Technology

Computer-aided design (CAD) involves the design and creation of three-dimensional models for services such as crowns, veneers, onlays, inlays and bridges with absolute precision. Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) sends the geometrical design data to an automated milling machine. This digital manufacturing process offers many enhancements, including:

  • Precise metal-free beauty
  • Undetectable surface texture
  • Single dental visit convenience
  • Exceptional fit and function
  • Durable, long-lasting service

Digital X-Rays

We use the MaxRay handheld digital X-ray -- a significant upgrade over both traditional film and older wall-mounted digital X-ray systems. MaxRay delivers instant high-resolution images at a fraction of the radiation dose of film, with no darkroom, no chemicals, and no waiting.

Handheld portability means we can position the sensor exactly where it needs to be for each patient, including those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility. Images appear on screen in seconds and can be enlarged, color-mapped, and compared side-by-side. No more squinting at blurry film held up to a light box -- every millimeter of bone and tissue is clearly visible at diagnosis time.

Intra-Oral Imaging & Scanners

We use two of the most advanced intraoral scanners available: the iTero Lumina and the 3Shape TRIOS 5. These wand-shaped devices capture a full 3D digital map of your teeth in minutes -- no goopy impression trays, no gagging, no waiting days for models to come back from a lab.

Intra-oral imaging also gives both patient and doctor a live, detailed view of the mouth on screen. Even small cracks and decay that are invisible to the naked eye appear vividly with the click of a button. Digital scans feed directly into our CAD/CAM, Invisalign, and implant planning workflows for a fully connected digital experience.

Soft Tissue Laser

We use the Brasseler BLU soft tissue laser -- a precision pen-shaped wand that allows us to remove suspicious or bothersome tissue in a couple of minutes. The healing stimulated by laser energy leads to rapid recovery with little to no discomfort and no stitches required.

Gums can be quickly reshaped without bleeding, and some gum infections are now treated with rapid results. Even cold sores or mouth ulcers can undergo faster healing when laser energy passes over the surface. The Brasseler BLU is safe for use with patients of all ages, including children.

Clinical Photography

High-resolution clinical photography is a foundational part of how we plan and communicate treatment. We use a Canon DSLR with macro lenses and calibrated ring flash to capture standardized views of your smile, bite, and individual teeth before any treatment begins.

These images do several things at once: they give Dr. Turke a precise reference for shade matching and veneer design, they allow patients to see exactly what the doctor sees, and they create a baseline that makes before-and-after comparisons honest and accurate. For smile makeovers and cosmetic cases, photos are imported directly into our digital smile design software so you can preview proposed changes before a single tooth is prepared.

Every significant case at Smile Science is photographed at intake, during treatment, and at final delivery -- a visual record that travels with your chart and ensures nothing gets lost between appointments.

Your Questions Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

CEREC allows us to design, mill, and place a custom ceramic crown in a single appointment using in-office CAD/CAM technology. Traditional crowns require two visits with a temporary crown in between. CEREC eliminates the temporary, the second appointment, and the off-site lab, while producing a highly accurate, natural-looking restoration.
A cone beam CT (CBCT) is a 3D imaging system that captures the teeth, bone, sinuses, and jaw joint in a single low-radiation scan. We use it to plan implant placement with precision, evaluate bone density before surgery, and diagnose conditions invisible on 2D X-rays. The scan takes about 20 seconds and is completely non-invasive.
Digital smile design uses software to map your facial proportions, lip line, and tooth shape to create a virtual preview of your new smile before any treatment begins. You can review and approve the design at the planning appointment, ensuring the final result meets your aesthetic goals before a single tooth is prepared.
An intraoral scanner is a small wand that captures precise 3D images of your teeth without impression material. Scans are faster, more comfortable, and more accurate than traditional putty impressions. We use digital scans for Invisalign, crown preparation, nightguards, and any case requiring detailed records of your dentition.
Dental lasers allow for minimally invasive treatment of soft tissue -- including gum contouring, treating canker sores, and bacterial decontamination during deep cleanings -- with less bleeding, swelling, and post-procedure discomfort than scalpel-based techniques. Many laser procedures require no anesthesia.
The procedures performed with our technology are typically covered by insurance at the same benefit level as conventional alternatives. CEREC crowns, for example, are covered at the same crown benefit rate regardless of how they are fabricated. The technology improves efficiency and outcomes without changing your insurance coverage.
No. Smile Science is 100% owned by Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke, two practicing dentists. There are no outside investors, no private equity involvement, and no management company directing clinical decisions. Both owners practice here full time. In a DSO or corporate chain, treatment recommendations can be influenced by investor returns, production quotas, or rotating providers who do not know your history. At Smile Science, the people making your treatment decisions are the same people whose names are on the practice. They are the doctors you will see at your appointment.
