Before Your First Visit

What to Have Ready

Arriving prepared makes your first visit faster and more productive. Here is everything you need:

  • Your insurance card (if applicable). We verify your benefits before you arrive so there are no surprises.
  • A list of any current medications you take.
  • Recent dental X-rays if you have them. We can often request them from your previous dentist directly.
  • Your photo ID.
  • Arrive 10 minutes early on your first visit to complete any intake paperwork.

If you have dental anxiety, let us know when you book. We can discuss sedation options in advance and have everything ready before you walk in the door.

New patient comprehensive exam and digital X-rays typically runs $150 to $250 depending on X-ray needs.

Most PPO insurance plans cover the exam and X-rays at or near 100% for new patients. We verify your benefits before your appointment so you know exactly what to expect.

Members of our in-house membership plan receive their exam and X-rays covered in year one. No separate new patient fee on top of membership.

Most insurance plans cover your first comprehensive exam and X-rays at 100%. If you do not have insurance, a new patient comprehensive exam and full X-ray series typically runs $150 to $250 depending on what is needed. We will always tell you the cost before anything is done. No surprises.

Our office is equipped with CBCT cone beam 3D imaging, digital impressions, same-day CAD/CAM crown milling, and an in-house dental lab. This technology reduces the number of appointments needed, improves accuracy, and allows us to complete more work under one roof -- including full-arch implant cases that would typically require multiple outside referrals.
Yes. Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) are accepted for most dental services. These accounts can cover co-pays, deductibles, and many procedures not fully covered by insurance. If you have funds in your HSA or FSA, using them for dental care is one of the most tax-efficient ways to spend them.
If the doctor identifies decay, gum disease, or other concerns during your exam, we will explain the findings clearly using X-rays and photos. You will receive a written treatment plan with itemized costs before any restorative work begins. Emergency pain can typically be addressed the same day. Routine restorative work is scheduled at a convenient follow-up appointment -- there is never any pressure to start treatment on the day of your exam.
Yes, in many cases. Same-day emergency care is available for pain, broken teeth, and lost restorations. We also offer same-day crowns and certain restorative procedures thanks to our in-house CAD/CAM milling system. If you need urgent care, call us at (480) 530-3663 and we will do our best to see you the same day.
No. Smile Science is 100% owned by Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke, two practicing dentists. There are no outside investors, no private equity involvement, and no management company directing clinical decisions. Both owners practice here full time. In a DSO or corporate chain, treatment recommendations can be influenced by investor returns, production quotas, or rotating providers who do not know your history. At Smile Science, the people making your treatment decisions are the same people whose names are on the practice. They are the doctors you will see at your appointment.
