The Spa Experience

This is not your average dental office

We designed Smile Science to feel more like a spa than a clinic. Every detail is intended to reduce anxiety and make your visit genuinely pleasant.

Heated Massage Chairs

Every treatment chair is a heated massage chair. Most patients find themselves relaxing almost immediately after sitting down.

Noise-Cancelling Headphones

Block out the sounds of the office and enjoy music, a podcast, or silence while we work. Available at every appointment, every time.

Ceiling-Mounted TVs

Watch your favorite shows during treatment. It sounds small, but patients consistently tell us it makes a real difference in how the time passes.

Warm Blankets

We keep warm blankets on hand for anyone who wants one. A small comfort that makes a surprising difference, especially for longer appointments.

Lip Balm & Refreshments

We provide lip balm before appointments to keep your lips comfortable throughout treatment, along with light refreshments in our waiting area.

Spa-Grade Environment

Thoughtful lighting, calming design, and a staff trained to minimize anxiety from the moment you walk in. A dental visit that actually feels good.

Transparent Pricing

What does dental care cost at Smile Science?

We believe in telling you the cost before anything is done. No surprises at the end of your appointment.

New Patient Visit

Comprehensive Exam and X-Rays

$150 – $250
depending on X-ray needs

Most PPO insurance plans cover the new patient exam and X-rays at or near 100%. We verify your benefits before your appointment. No surprise bills.

Routine cleanings for established patients with healthy gums are included with membership or billed per visit without insurance. For patients with active gum disease, a periodontal maintenance appointment may be recommended in place of a standard cleaning. We explain the difference clearly before any treatment begins.

One Visit, Whole Family

Back-to-back appointments for the whole family on the same day.

We can often see multiple family members back-to-back on the same day. One location, one team, and complete records for everyone. No coordinating between different offices or transferring X-rays.

Tell us when you book that you want to bring the family and we will coordinate the schedule to minimize your time away. Same-week appointments are typically available for new patients of all ages.

Periodontal Health
Gum Disease Is More Common Than Most Patients Realize

Nearly half of adults have some form of periodontal disease -- and most have no symptoms until it has already progressed. Gum disease has been linked to serious systemic conditions including heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory illness.

At Smile Science, every hygiene visit includes a full periodontal assessment. If we see signs of disease, we discuss it with you before you leave the chair. Learn about our periodontal treatment approach.

Independent & Doctor-Owned

Smile Science is owned entirely by Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke -- two practicing dentists with no outside investors, no DSO involvement, and no private equity. The doctors making your treatment decisions are the same people whose names are on the practice.

Every visit is with a doctor who has reviewed your complete care history before you sit down.

Common Questions

What families ask before their first visit

Yes. We see patients of all ages including young children. We pride ourselves on creating a calm, welcoming environment that makes dental visits positive experiences for kids. Starting early with good dental habits makes a significant difference in long-term oral health.
We accept most major dental insurance plans and are happy to verify your benefits before your appointment. For patients without insurance, we offer our Smile Science Membership Plan at $229 per year, which covers exams, X-rays, and provides discounts on all treatment.
Yes. We can often schedule multiple family members back-to-back or simultaneously depending on availability. Call us and let us know you want to bring the family and we will do our best to coordinate appointments to minimize your time away from home.
We work hard to offer same-week appointments for new patients. For urgent or emergency situations, we typically offer same-day care. If you are in pain or have a dental concern that is bothering you, call us today rather than waiting.
Most patients benefit from two professional cleanings and exams per year. Children may need more frequent fluoride treatments, and patients with a history of gum disease or high cavity risk may be recommended to come every 3 to 4 months. We will tailor a recall schedule based on each family member's specific needs.
Yes. Smile Science is a family dental practice and welcomes patients of all ages. We see children from their first dental visit through adulthood. Having a single family dentist who knows your history and each family member's specific needs is an advantage we are proud to offer Glendale families.
Yes, from age 3. First visits are intentionally short, gentle, and focused on making the experience positive rather than rushing through a full exam. We count teeth, do a quick check, and let the child get comfortable with the environment. A good first experience at 4 shapes dental habits for decades. We do not rush, and we do not force anything.
We have significant experience with anxious young patients. We go at their pace, explain everything in age-appropriate terms, and give them control where we can. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is available for children in appropriate cases. Let us know when you book and we will make sure the appointment is designed around their comfort level.
Absolutely. Many patients use their routine cleaning appointment to discuss whitening, Invisalign, or other cosmetic improvements they have been considering. Bring it up when you book or mention it when you arrive. We will make time to review your options and give you honest input on what would make the most difference for your goals.
No. Smile Science is 100% owned by Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke, two practicing dentists. There are no outside investors, no private equity involvement, and no management company directing clinical decisions. Both owners practice here full time. In a DSO or corporate chain, treatment recommendations can be influenced by investor returns, production quotas, or rotating providers who do not know your history. At Smile Science, the people making your treatment decisions are the same people whose names are on the practice. They are the doctors you will see at your appointment.

Family Dentistry: Key Terms

Definitions for procedures and clinical terms referenced on this page.

Prophylaxis
The technical term for a routine preventive cleaning. Removes plaque, tartar, and surface stains from all tooth surfaces. Recommended every six months for most patients.
Periodontal charting
Recording pocket depths at six points around every tooth to identify gum disease. Healthy readings are 1 to 3mm. Readings of 4mm or more indicate periodontitis at various stages of severity.
Scaling and root planing
A non-surgical deep-cleaning treatment for active gum disease. Removes bacterial deposits from root surfaces below the gumline under local anesthesia. The standard of care for Stage II and III periodontitis.
Bitewing X-rays
X-rays showing the crowns of upper and lower back teeth simultaneously. Used to detect decay between teeth and under existing restorations that are invisible to visual examination alone.
Composite filling
A tooth-colored resin restoration bonded directly to tooth structure. Mercury-free, aesthetic, and requires less removal of healthy enamel than older silver amalgam fillings.
Fluoride treatment
A topical application of fluoride varnish or gel that remineralizes enamel and reduces cavity risk. Applied at preventive cleanings and prescribed for high-risk patients of all ages.
Oral cancer screening
A visual and tactile examination of the lips, cheeks, tongue, floor of the mouth, and throat performed at every comprehensive dental exam. Takes approximately two minutes and requires no special instruments.
