What the research shows

The cost difference is real.

Full-arch implants in Mexico commonly run $8,000 to $14,000 for procedures that cost $15,000 to $25,000 in the US. That is a meaningful difference and it is reasonable to consider it. The dentists doing this work are real dentists. Many trained in the US or Europe. Some patients have excellent outcomes.

The questions below are worth asking regardless of where you choose to have treatment.

Before you book

What to ask before you commit, anywhere.

  1. What exactly is included in the quoted price? (extractions, CBCT scan, temporary arch, sedation, follow-up visits)
  2. Who performs the surgery? Is it the same doctor you met at the consultation?
  3. What is the follow-up protocol? How many visits are included, and over what period?
  4. What happens if osseointegration fails 6 months after you return home?
  5. What are the written warranty terms? What is excluded?
  6. How does the practice handle complications for patients who live outside the area?
What to know

What happens when something goes wrong at home.

Osseointegration, the process of bone fusing to the implant, takes 3 to 6 months. Most complications surface during this window. If your implants were placed in Cancun and you live in Glendale, managing those complications means either flying back or finding a local provider willing to take over another dentist's work. Not all will.

At Smile Science, we regularly see patients for revision assessments on implants placed elsewhere, whether abroad or at another practice here. We do not require the original work to have been done here.

Already had implants placed abroad?

We can help.

Protecting Your Implant Long-Term: Peri-Implantitis

Dental implants do not get cavities -- but the tissue surrounding them can develop peri-implantitis, a bacterial infection that destroys the bone supporting the implant. Left untreated, peri-implantitis is the leading cause of late implant failure.

Our hygiene team monitors implant sites at every recall visit. If early peri-implantitis signs appear, we intervene before bone loss becomes significant. Learn about our periodontal treatment approach.

Independent & Doctor-Owned

Smile Science is owned entirely by Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke -- two practicing dentists with no outside investors, no DSO involvement, and no private equity. The doctors making your treatment decisions are the same people whose names are on the practice.

Surgery is performed by Dr. Dawson or Dr. Barrett depending on your case -- not a rotating staff surgeon from a chain.

Your Questions Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

Many are. A significant number trained in the US or Europe and hold advanced certifications in implant dentistry. The concern with dental tourism is generally not about credentials. It is about follow-up care and what happens when complications arise 3 to 6 months after you return home, when your provider is thousands of miles away.

Not the initial procedure. Osseointegration, the bone fusing to the implant, takes 3 to 6 months. If something goes wrong during that window while you are back home, you face a choice: fly back, or find a local provider willing to manage another dentist's work. Some practices will not. Having a local provider willing to monitor and manage your case after surgery is as important as the surgery itself.

Both include surgical placement, standard extractions, your 3D CBCT planning scan, and your restoration. The $12,500 PMMA provisional tier gives you same-day teeth with the option to upgrade to final zirconia at 6 months. The $15,999 final zirconia tier gives you your permanent arch on the same day as surgery, with no second procedure. Neither price has itemized add-ons for the items listed.

Yes. Dr. Barrett evaluates revision cases regardless of where the original work was done. If you had implants placed in Mexico, Costa Rica, Turkey, or elsewhere and are experiencing problems, we offer a free assessment. We do not require that your original case was placed here.

Warranty terms vary widely between practices. Many are not provided in writing until after treatment begins. Before committing, ask to see the written warranty document: what failures are covered, what maintenance is required to keep it valid, and what happens if the practice closes or you relocate. Our 10-year fixture warranty is manufacturer-backed and our 5-year prosthetic warranty covers fit, fracture, and fabrication defects. Both are provided in writing before your first appointment.

Advertised prices vary significantly in what they include. Some quotes cover only implant fixtures and arch fabrication. Extractions, alveoloplasty, CBCT imaging, sedation, and provisional restorations may be billed separately, and not all "zirconia" arches use the same fabrication standard. Our pricing includes your 3D CBCT planning scan, surgical placement, standard extractions, and your final restoration. Before comparing prices, ask any provider for a written itemized list of what is and is not included.

No. Smile Science is 100% owned by Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke, two practicing dentists. There are no outside investors, no private equity involvement, and no management company directing clinical decisions. Both owners practice here full time. In a DSO or corporate chain, treatment recommendations can be influenced by investor returns, production quotas, or rotating providers who do not know your history. At Smile Science, the people making your treatment decisions are the same people whose names are on the practice. They are the doctors you will see at your appointment.
