Frequently Asked Questions

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign trays are nearly invisible. The aligners are custom-made for each patient and are designed to apply gentle pressure to the teeth, gradually moving them into alignment over time. Trays must be worn for 20-22 hours each day for best results. Invisalign offers a comfortable and effective solution for those looking to achieve straight, beautiful teeth.

Why Invisalign?

Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke have chosen to offer Invisalign clear orthodontic aligners because of their predictability, reliability, and efficiency. When compared to other orthodontic treatments such as traditional braces, Invisalign offers a more discreet treatment option. Furthermore, other clear aligner brands have less predictable outcomes. Invisalign has a well-established reputation for delivering high-quality results.

How long does it take?

The duration of Invisalign treatment depends on the complexity of the case. On average, treatment can take 9 to 18 months, with simple cases requiring less than 6 months. More complex cases can take up to 2 years or more. Sometimes, Invisalign may be combined with traditional orthodontic treatment such as braces. Wearing the aligners for less than the recommended 20-22 hours per day can greatly affect the length of treatment.

Are your doctors Invisalign Certified?

Yes! Both Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke have completed the required training to become Invisalign Certified providers. They have both completed multiple Invisalign treatments.

Is it Painful?

Like any orthodontic treatment, Invisalign can be uncomfortable, particularly the first set of trays. However, the discomfort is easily managed in most cases. The soreness and discomfort is normal, and usually subsides after a few days.

Will I need a retainer after I finish?

Yes, you will need to wear a retainer after completing Invisalign treatment to keep your teeth from moving out of position. The kind of retainer we use varies, and depends on several factors such as your oral hygiene, bite stability, and personal preferences. Invisalign offers their own removable retainer called Vivera. In addition to maintaining your new smile, wearing a retainer can also provide additional benefits, such as serving as a nightguard to protect your teeth and gums.

Can I whiten my teeth with Invisalign?

While it is possible to whiten your teeth while undergoing Invisalign treatment, we don't recommend it. This is because many cases involve the use of attachments that cannot be whitened. Also, the tight fit of the aligners makes it difficult to evenly distribute the whitening gel over all tooth surfaces. As a result, you may experience an uneven whitening result. How do I clean and care for my trays?

For best results, clean your aligners daily using denture tablets and lukewarm water. Soak the aligners in a glass of water with a denture tablet for about 5 minutes, then rinse with cool water and gently brush any food debris with a soft toothbrush. This simple routine will help keep your aligners fresh, clean and free of any unwanted odors.

How often do I need to see you for new trays?

This varies from patient to patient. Generally, a single set of trays is provided for the first two weeks, followed by multiple sets (usually 3) every 30 days. This schedule depends on your comfort, compliance, and the movement of your teeth. Our typical patient receives three sets of aligners every thirty days.

Does Invisalign cost more than traditional braces?

In general, Invisalign treatment is more expensive than traditional braces. The added cost of manufacturing and delivering the custom-made aligners results in a higher lab fee, which contributes to the overall cost of Invisalign treatment. Keep in mind that the exact cost depends on several factors such as the complexity of the case and the length of treatment.
