Why a Dental Practice for Facial Aesthetics?

Facial aesthetics is a growing area of dentistry -- and the reason makes complete sense. Dentists spend years mastering the anatomy, muscle structure, and nerve pathways of the face. That knowledge directly enables precise, safe aesthetic injections.

Deep Anatomical Expertise

Dental training builds comprehensive knowledge of the facial muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and bony landmarks that govern safe injection technique. This expertise is not acquired in a weekend certification course.

Injection Precision from Dental Training

Dentists administer injections daily -- in confined, sensitive anatomical spaces -- as a core part of their clinical practice. That hand skill translates directly to controlled, accurate placement of neuromodulators and fillers.

The Smile-Face Connection

Lip proportions, perioral volume, smile lines, and facial symmetry are all interconnected. Treating the smile without considering the surrounding face -- or vice versa -- can leave results that look incomplete. We see the full picture.

Clinical Environment, Medical Standards

Facial aesthetic treatments at SmileScience are performed in a fully equipped clinical environment -- not a spa. Emergency protocols, reversal agents, and trained staff are present for every treatment.

Facial Aesthetic Services at SmileScience

Neuromodulators

Botulinum toxin-based neuromodulators soften expression lines caused by repetitive facial muscle movement. Common treatment areas include forehead lines, crow's feet, frown lines, bunny lines, and lip lines. Results appear within 3 to 7 days and last 3 to 4 months.

Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers restore lost volume, smooth static lines, and enhance facial contours. Treatment areas include nasolabial folds, marionette lines, cheeks, under-eye hollows, chin, and jawline. Results last 6 to 18 months depending on area and product.

Lip Enhancement

Custom lip augmentation using hyaluronic acid filler focused on natural proportions -- improved definition, subtle volume addition, or asymmetry correction. Lip treatment is one of the most smile-synergistic services we offer, directly complementing cosmetic dental work.

Jawline Definition

Non-surgical jawline contouring and chin projection using strategic filler placement. A well-defined jawline directly supports the lower facial third -- the same zone affected by dental aesthetics. A natural complement to smile design and cosmetic dental treatment.

Facial Rejuvenation Plans

Combination treatment plans that address multiple dimensions of facial aging in a coordinated way -- neuromodulators for expression lines, fillers for volume, and dental cosmetic work for the smile. The result is a more complete, naturally harmonious improvement.

Therapeutic Neuromodulators

Neuromodulator injections into the masseter muscle to reduce the grinding and clenching forces associated with bruxism. Masseter treatment also slims an overly square jawline as a secondary benefit. A natural fit in a dental practice setting.

The Full-Face Philosophy

Dental Artistry Meets Facial Balance

A smile transformation is most impactful when it is considered alongside the entire face. The teeth live within the lips. The lips sit within the perioral tissue. The lower face connects to the midface and upper face. Every element influences how the whole looks.

Dr. Turke's training in digital smile design -- which maps facial proportions before any treatment begins -- translates naturally into facial aesthetic planning. When you are considering veneers, teeth whitening, or Invisalign alongside neuromodulators or filler, we think through the complete picture together.

Many patients find that the most satisfying results come from pairing a dental cosmetic treatment with targeted facial aesthetic work. It's not about dramatic change. It's about every element of your face working in harmony.

Common Treatment Combinations

  • Porcelain veneers + lip filler for improved perioral framing
  • Neuromodulators for forehead + cheek filler for midface volume + whitening
  • Smile makeover + full facial rejuvenation plan
  • Therapeutic neuromodulators (bruxism) + cosmetic neuromodulators (forehead, crow's feet)
  • Jawline filler + chin projection + dental implant restoration

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Facial aesthetic treatments are appropriate for adults who are in good general health and have realistic expectations. You may be a good candidate if you:

Neuromodulator Candidates

  • Notice forehead lines or crow's feet at rest
  • Have frown lines between the brows
  • Clench or grind teeth (bruxism)
  • Want to slow the progression of expression lines
  • Have a gummy smile you'd like to address

Filler Candidates

  • Notice hollow cheeks or under-eye hollowing
  • Have deepened nasolabial folds or marionette lines
  • Want fuller or better-defined lips
  • Desire more jawline definition or chin projection
  • Looking for alternatives to surgical procedures

Contraindications include active skin infection at the treatment site, certain autoimmune conditions, current use of blood-thinning medications (without prior physician clearance), and pregnancy. We conduct a thorough medical history review before any treatment.

What Happens at a Facial Aesthetics Consultation

  1. Step 1

We ask what specifically bothers you and what you'd like to address. We also ask what you don't want to change -- equally important. Bring photos of results you admire if you have them.

    Discovery Conversation

  2. Facial Assessment

    Step 2

Dr. Turke evaluates your facial anatomy -- upper, mid, and lower face zones -- and your skin quality, muscle movement, and existing volume distribution. This assessment determines which treatments offer the most meaningful improvement for you.

  3. Step 3

You receive a written treatment plan with each proposed service, the expected outcome, and itemized costs. We never recommend more than your anatomy warrants. You choose what to proceed with -- and when.

    Treatment Plan and Transparent Pricing

  4. Treatment and Follow-Up

    Step 4

Many patients proceed with treatment on the same day as the consultation. A 2-week follow-up is included to review results, assess for any adjustments, and answer questions about maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dentists and licensed dental hygienists have some of the most advanced facial anatomy training of any healthcare provider -- including detailed knowledge of the muscles, nerves, and blood vessels relevant to safe aesthetic injection. Our team also has the ability to coordinate your facial treatment with your dental care, which no med spa can offer. The clinical environment at SmileScience meets the same safety standards as all dental procedures.

Yes, though we generally recommend separating dental treatment from facial aesthetics by at least a few days to avoid any overlap of swelling or tenderness. We can schedule both on the same day when appointments are sequenced appropriately and the dental work involved is minor.

Neuromodulators work by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause expression lines -- effective for forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines. Dermal fillers replace lost volume and smooth static lines that are present even at rest. Many patients benefit from both in combination. See our dedicated pages on neuromodulators and dermal fillers for more detail.

Cosmetic neuromodulators and dermal fillers are not covered by dental or medical insurance. Therapeutic neuromodulator treatment for bruxism may be partially reimbursable through medical insurance on a case-by-case basis. We provide itemized receipts that are compatible with HSA and FSA reimbursement.

Neuromodulator results typically last 3 to 4 months. Dermal filler duration varies by product and treatment area -- lips last 6 to 9 months, while cheek or jawline filler can last 12 to 18 months. Regular maintenance appointments keep results continuous and often require less product over time.

Our philosophy is conservative enhancement. We use careful volumes, proportionally-guided placement, and a detailed pre-treatment conversation about the look you want to achieve and what you want to avoid. The goal is that you look like yourself -- just refreshed. We do not pursue dramatic transformation unless that is explicitly what a patient requests.

Most patients return to normal activities immediately. Minor swelling and occasional bruising may be visible for 3 to 7 days. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, and heat (saunas, steam rooms) for 24 hours after filler treatment. For neuromodulator treatments, we ask that you avoid lying flat or massaging treated areas for 4 hours.

We treat patients 18 and older for cosmetic facial aesthetic procedures. Therapeutic neuromodulators for bruxism may be appropriate for younger patients on a case-by-case basis with appropriate informed consent.
