What are Snap-in Overdentures?
Snap-in overdentures, also called implant-retained dentures or implant-supported overdentures, are a removable full-arch solution that connects securely to dental implants for improved stability, comfort, and chewing power compared to traditional dentures.
How They Work
Two to four implants are placed strategically in the jawbone to act as anchors. These implants fuse with the bone through osseointegration, providing a solid foundation. The overdenture snaps onto the implants using locator attachments, holding it firmly in place during function while still allowing removal for cleaning.
Why Patients Choose Snap-In Overdentures
Secure fit: No rocking, slipping, or adhesives
Improved chewing efficiency
Bone preservation
Easy maintenance
Cost-effective stability
A Modern Upgrade from Traditional Dentures
Unlike traditional dentures that rest on the gums and can shift or slip, snap-in overdentures are held securely by dental implants. Patients experience a dramatic improvement in stability, chewing power, and confidence.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Smile Science Dental Spa, and I couldn't be more impressed with the level of care and service provided by the entire team. Dr. Dawson and Dr. Turke are both incredibly skilled and made me feel completely at ease throughout my procedures. Their professionalism, combined with their gentle approach, made me feel comfortable and well-informed every step of the way. I was especially impressed that I was able to get a same-day crown(apparently their first ever!), which exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t believe how quick and seamless the process was. It really saved me time and made the experience even more convenient. Cindiray and Angeles, the dental assistants, were equally wonderful. They were not only friendly and attentive but also thorough in explaining everything and made sure I was relaxed during each phase of my visit. Lastly, a big thank you to Litzy at the front desk, who greeted me with a smile and helped with scheduling and any questions I had. She made the entire check-in process a breeze. From start to finish, my experience at Smile Science Dental Spa was exceptional. I'll be returning for sure. I highly, highly, highly recommend them for anyone looking for high-quality dental care.
Honestly I’ve never been so happy to go to the dentist. I came in (late due to Lyft) and was still taken care of and treated with care. Even without insurance (kicking in within the next month) prices for an extraction on my infected tooth were more than reasonable. I was able to get more than expected done in the same visit. Dr. Dawson and his team made me feel so comfortable and taken care of. Won’t go anywhere else.
I recently started as a patient after leaving our long-time family Dentist and couldn’t be happier! Marcela is AMAZING and a FANTASTIC hygienist!!!! 😃
Dr Dawson is great too!
Every time I visit, they make me feel like family.
Myself and my family had previously gone to Dr. Turk at another dental office that he worked at. He had relocated and we did not know where he had gone to until this week. Today I got in with Dr. Turk and he took the time to look at my x-rays carefully . I was having pain from a tooth and some other issues. The previous Dentist I went to that I saw just a few days earlier, he did not find any issues with my tooth which I had pain in. Dr. Turk identified infection and referred me to an endodontist. He is very gentle as a wonderful disposition and my self and my family are thrilled to be able to get back with him. The office is lovely, relaxing music, heat and massage chair.I have always been very nervous and some anxiety going to dentist as I have had bad reactions with the anesthesia. I am confident that Dr. Kirk will help me get through my next appointment just fine.
“The staff are very kind and attentive. I am looking forward as I have quite a bit of work to be done, and I know I’m in good hands with Dr. Turk and his staff. Five stars!⭐️

I recently moved to Arizona and had an issue with a tooth repair from 15 years back. Not knowing anyone here in my new home, I searched dentists close to me. I chose Smile Science much like pinning the tail on the donkey and my selection couldn't have been better! What a terrific staff! Dr. Turke was concerned the tooth would need to be extracted, but said he wanted to take a shot at saving it..and that's just what he did! After setting a temporary crown, I was on my way with an appointment to install the permanent crown in the following two weeks. That evening I received a call I've never received from a dentist. Dr. Turke had taken the time to follow up with me to make sure I wasn't in any discomfort..I was completely caught off guard by this kind of attention to detail and caring for my well being. The permanent crown is now in place, it fits and feels fantastic, the job and treatment are first class! Thank you, Dr. Turke and staff for taking in this stray and giving me a home dentist! I'd like to say that I'm just good at selecting blindly, but the truth is I am very lucky..and I'll take lucky over being good any day of the week! Thank you, again and Happiest of New Year's in 2026, Science Smile!!

Traditional Dentures
Removable acrylic dentures held in place by suction. The lowest up-front cost, but jawbone continues to shrink underneath, so dentures need relining or full replacement every 5 – 7 years.
Best for Patients who need a temporary or budget solution; not the long-term answer for most.
A removable denture that snaps onto 2 – 4 implants. Far better stability than traditional dentures (no adhesive, no rocking) and the implants stop bone loss. Removable for cleaning.
Best for Patients who want stability and bone preservation but aren't ready for fully fixed All-on-4.
A fixed restoration anchored to the two adjacent natural teeth. Permanent and natural-feeling, but requires reshaping the healthy neighbors. Bone under the missing tooth still shrinks because there's no implant.
Best for Single missing tooth where the neighbors already need crowns.
A titanium post in the jawbone capped with a custom crown. Looks and functions like a natural tooth. Stops bone loss, doesn't involve neighboring teeth, and lasts decades, only the crown may need replacement around the 20-year mark.
Best for Single or scattered missing teeth where preserving bone and neighbors matters.
Four implants per arch supporting a full fixed bridge, non-removable. Same bite force as natural teeth, no adhesive, no daily removal. Smile Science's primary recommendation for full-arch tooth replacement.
Best for Patients replacing all teeth in an arch who want permanent, fixed teeth.
Six implants per arch for additional stability and bite force. Recommended for stronger bite or aggressive bruxism. The longest-lasting full-arch option.
Best for Patients with strong bite forces, bruxism, or who prioritize the longest possible service life.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many implants do I need for a snap-in overdenture?
Most snap-in overdentures are supported by 2–4 implants. Two implants are common for the lower arch. We offer snap-in dentures for the lower jaw only. The right number depends on your bone volume, bite forces, and goals.
Are snap-in dentures the same as implant dentures?
Yes. Snap-in dentures, implant-retained dentures, and implant-supported overdentures are terms used to describe the same concept: a removable full-arch denture that attaches to dental implants using snap attachments (locators).
What is the difference between snap-in and permanent (fixed) implants?
Snap-in overdentures are removable. They snap onto implants for security during function but can be removed by the patient for cleaning. Fixed implant bridges (All-on-4, All-on-6) are non-removable and can only be taken out by a dentist. Fixed options typically provide higher chewing power and require more implants.
How long does the treatment take?
The full treatment process typically takes 3–6 months from implant placement to overdenture delivery, allowing time for osseointegration. The implant surgery itself is usually completed in a single appointment of 1–2 hours.
Will I be without teeth during healing?
No. You will continue wearing your existing denture during healing, or we can fabricate a temporary solution if needed. You will never go without teeth during the process.
How do I clean snap-in dentures?
Remove the overdenture daily. Clean it with a soft brush and denture cleaner. Clean around the implant housings in your mouth with a soft brush and water flosser. Keep the locator attachments free of debris to maintain proper retention.
How often will I need maintenance?
Professional maintenance is recommended every 3–4 months for snap-in overdenture patients. We clean the implant housings, check retention, replace locator inserts when worn (typically every 6–18 months), and monitor peri-implant tissue health.
Are snap-in overdentures covered by insurance?
Some plans offer partial coverage for implants or related procedures. Full coverage for the overdenture itself varies by plan. We review your benefits during your consultation and help maximize whatever reimbursement is available.
How long do snap-in overdentures last?
Implant fixtures are designed to last decades. The overdenture itself typically needs replacement or reline every 5–7 years. Locator inserts are replaced more frequently, usually every 6–18 months depending on use. Regular maintenance extends the life of all components.
How do snap-in overdenture costs compare to a fixed All-on-4 bridge?
Your treatment plan will include specific fees before any work begins. All-on-4 fixed bridges start at $10,999 per arch and provide a permanent, non-removable restoration with higher chewing efficiency. The right choice depends on your bone anatomy, budget, and lifestyle preferences. Both options are presented side by side at your free implant consultation so you can compare based on your actual case, not general estimates.
