Fill the Gaps Without Losing What You Have

A partial denture replaces one or more missing teeth in an arch where healthy natural teeth still remain. Unlike a bridge, a partial is removable and does not require crowning adjacent teeth. At Smile Science, Dr. Turke designs cast-metal and flexible partials using digital records from our in-house lab. The result is a precise fit, natural appearance, and restored chewing function -- at a fraction of the cost of full implant replacement.

Types of Partial Dentures

Dr. Turke will recommend the best material based on your bite, the number of missing teeth, and the location of your remaining natural teeth.

Cast-Metal Framework Partial

The most durable and stable type. A thin metal framework clasps to your natural teeth and supports acrylic gum tissue and porcelain teeth. Ideal for patients with multiple missing teeth or a heavy bite.

Flexible (Valplast) Partial

Made from a thermoplastic nylon resin that flexes with your jaw. No visible metal clasps. Excellent for patients who want a more cosmetic solution or who have metal sensitivities. Particularly well-suited for front tooth replacement.

Acrylic Transitional Partial

An affordable removable option often used as a temporary solution while waiting for implant sites to heal or while other treatment is in progress. Less durable than cast-metal but easy to modify as teeth are added or removed.

Partial vs. Bridge vs. Implant -- Which Is Right for You?

Each tooth-replacement option has trade-offs. Dr. Turke reviews all three at your consultation so you can make an informed choice.

Partial Denture

  • Removable -- easy hygiene
  • Replaces multiple non-adjacent teeth
  • No adjacent tooth preparation needed
  • Lower cost than bridge or implants
  • Can be modified as more teeth are lost

Fixed Bridge

  • Cemented in place -- feels more natural
  • Best for 1-3 consecutive missing teeth
  • Requires crowning adjacent healthy teeth
  • Cannot be removed for cleaning
  • Mid-range cost

Dental Implant(s)

  • Permanent, independent tooth replacement
  • Preserves jawbone; no adjacent tooth impact
  • Highest durability (15-20+ years)
  • Requires minor surgery and healing time
  • Higher initial investment

How We Make Your Partial Denture

  1. Dr. Turke evaluates the number, location, and distribution of missing teeth, plus the health of remaining teeth that will anchor the partial. X-rays confirm bone and root status.

    Exam & Treatment Planning

  2. Impressions & Records

Precise impressions capture both arches. Bite records ensure your partial is designed for your exact occlusion. Shade and shape are selected to blend with your natural teeth.

  3. For cast-metal partials, the metal framework is tried in first to confirm fit and clasp engagement before the acrylic and teeth are added. Adjustments are made at this stage.

    Framework Try-In (Metal Partials)

  4. Tooth Try-In

The partial with teeth is delivered for a final preview. You approve the appearance, color match, and bite before it is finished.

  5. Your finished partial is delivered and fine-tuned for comfort. Dr. Turke checks occlusion and clasp tension to ensure it seats and removes easily.

    Delivery & Adjustment

  6. Ongoing Care & Monitoring

We see you for regular adjustments as needed. Clasps can be tightened, acrylic repaired, and teeth replaced as required over the life of the partial.

Partial Dentures -- Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Teeth are shade-matched to your existing natural teeth. Flexible (Valplast) partials have no visible metal clasps, making them particularly cosmetic. Cast-metal clasps are usually placed on back teeth where they are not easily visible.

Most partial denture cases require 3-5 appointments over 3-5 weeks. The timeline depends on whether a cast-metal framework or flexible material is used and how many try-in appointments are needed.

Remove and rinse after meals when possible. Brush daily with a soft denture brush. Soak overnight in water or a mild denture cleanser. Never use regular toothpaste on the partial -- it is too abrasive. Continue brushing and flossing your natural teeth as usual.

Most foods are fine. Hard and very sticky foods (hard candy, chewing gum, very crunchy raw vegetables) should be eaten with caution early on. Most patients adapt fully within a few weeks.

Dr. Turke will advise based on your specific case. Many patients remove their partial at night to allow gum tissue to rest. We will instruct you at the delivery appointment.

Most partials can be repaired. Bring the partial and the broken tooth fragment in as soon as possible. Do not attempt to glue it yourself -- home adhesives can damage the fit.
